Online FAQ's

How is the school day structured?

Grades K-5: K-5 students meet live/virtually with their classroom teachers during the learning day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. They also have small group instruction and specialist classes throughout the day.

Grades 6-8: Middle school students learn live/virtually with teachers in real time, and switch classes based on subject, just like in a physical school.  Teachers have office hours for students who may need extra support or to ask clarifying questions.

Grades 9-12: High school students learn independently with no live classes.  All teachers are available through their office hours, which can be scheduled through their personal booking pages. Students receiving EL and/or Special Ed. services may have live/synchronous classes as a part of their schedule.

What does attendance look like?

Grades K-5: Attendance is taken twice per day: once in the AM and once in the PM. Students are marked absent if they are present for under one hour of synchronous/ live instruction for the day.  They are marked tardy if they miss 60 or more minutes of synchronous/live instruction for the day.

Grades 6-8: Attendance is taken in every class. Students are marked absent if they are not present for synchronous learning for the day.  If you miss between 10 and 30 minutes of class, you will be marked tardy. If you miss over 30 minutes of class, you will be marked absent.  There may be some instances when attendance is done through asynchronous assignments; students and families will be notified when this situation occurs.

Grades 9-12: Students are marked absent if they do not log in to the learning platform and complete their daily attendance in EVERY class EVERY school day. This login can be at any of the 24 hours of the day. Teachers submit attendance the following morning so that evening logins are accounted for; students and caregivers should check their portal at 11AM each day to view the previous day’s attendance markings.

Are there after-school activities or sports offered?

MPS Online offers no after-school activities or sports opportunities, but students are allowed to enroll in after-school/sports programs at their designated home school.
